Our Unique Proposition

Our mission is to improve personal financial literacy education by providing advocacy, teacher trainings, and educational resources. We strive to prepare Utah youth and families for life-long successful financial decision-making.

The Utah Jump$tart Coalition is a coalition of organizations, which share a commitment to the financial education of youth. Working collaboratively, more resources and expertise are available to accomplish this task.

We accomplish our mission by:

  • Raising awareness of the need for personal finance fundamentals;

  • Enhancing the effectiveness of personal financial education;

  • Promoting responsible fiscal attitudes and behaviors; and

  • Encouraging networking and cooperative efforts among business, community, government and education.

Our Programs

1) THE ANNUAL $TART $MART TEACHER SUMMIT FOR FINANCIAL LITERACY

Since 2001, the Utah Jump$tart Coalition has hosted a full day professional development training focused on financial and economic education. This training, or Summit, brings together K-12 educators, nonprofits, business leaders and government agencies to empower Utah teachers and homeschoolers to teach financial literacy.

The Summit includes engaging, substantive presentations that make personal finance and economics accessible to teachers and home schoolers, helping them take charge of their financial future. The majority of the training sessions (80%) are focused on content and real-life applications with the final portion (20%) focused on resources teachers and home schoolers can utilize in the classroom.

2) REGIONAL COMMUNITY AND EDUCATIONAL TRAININGS

In cooperation with our corporate and civic partners, the Utah Jump$tart Coalition works to host many regional training's each year to provide quality professional development for groups, clubs, organizations, and teachers specifically focused on financial and economic education.

**HAPPENING THIS MONTH:

Join a Professional Development event tailored for Financial Literacy and Math Educators at Fidelity's office at the Gateway in SLC, Utah. April 25, 2024.

Explore topics that resonate with students and prepare them for future success!

This event will feature rotating sessions, providing valuable insights and strategies.

Additionally, participants will have the opportunity to discover various careers in financial services that students can pursue.

The day will include a collective session and a networking lunch.

3) STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS

In cooperation with America First Credit Union and My529 the Utah Jump$tart Coalition offers up to FOUR, $1,250 AND TWO $1,750 scholarships to Utah's high school seniors who produce creative, informative TikTok or YouTube videos about keeping college debt to a minimum. See info CLICK HERE!!!!

4) UTAH JUMP$TART COALITION K-6 FINANCIAL LITERACY TOOLKIT

This guide is a resource to help elementary teachers identify financial lessons and activities that meet a math, social studies or language arts requirement. Access the toolkit here

5) ADVOCACY & OUTREACH

The Utah Jump$tart Coalition works to promote adequate funding of financial literacy education in Utah and to increase cooperation between schools, businesses and community organizations. Financial literacy education is a long term effort with a lasting impact that requires a coordinated effort to produce long term success.
